As seen on Instagram - Top 5 photos from Jan & Feb

February 28, 2017

Are you a fan of Instragram?

Little square images filling the screen with every imaginable subject matter and a breathtaking volume to look at

Such a visual platform is an obvious place for a photographer to show their work and I try to post one or two images every day. I think it's a great way for people to some new work or for people to browse and get a feel for my style of documentary wedding photographer with a particular emphasis on black & white images

I've decided to start a series of blogs showcasing the most popular 5 images from the previous month or two so this first one is looking back from the start of the year. I think it's fascinating to see what catches the eye and gets engagement and this top 5 features 5 different weddings so it's a great cross section

It features weddings in Birmingham, West Midlands, Worcestershire, Warwickshire and Shropshire so it covers the counties really well.

There is a mix of Church and Civil weddings, urban & country, Manor House & Hotel and even one with the reception in the back garden!!

So, without any further ado, here we go

The most popular image is this one from the Wedding of Jenny & Matt at Fazeley Studios in Birmingham back in December. The whole day was a blast and their two young children just added to the fun.

During the drinks reception we went for a wander to the Custard Factory and whilst crossing over a channel of water no this wire bridge their kids made a break for it!!

I love the juxtaposition of the elegance and formality of the Bride & Groom's attire with the urban landscape and the colourful graffiti behind them. Of course having two cute kids in it helps as well!!

This second one is from a wedding in Tettenhall, Wolverhampton at St Micheal & All Angels Church and it doesn't feature either the Bride or the Groom

It actually shows the Grooms sister, sitting on the end of the pew, wrapped up in the emotion of the occasion, clutching her bouquet of flowers as everyone else chats during the recessional. It's exactly the sort of moment that I'm always looking out for at a wedding, the emotion of the occasion. You can see more of Kirsti & Jamie's Wedding at Tettenhall followed by Lilleshall Hall in Shropshire

Next we have an image which really stood out for me, in fact it featured as one of my favourite wedding images, another series of blogs that I add to from time to time

It shows Jenny and her Dad, running slightly late for their wedding at Grafton Manor. Her Dad looking at his watch was just the perfect image to capture. It was just a momentary glance but I was pleased I captured it

Here we have a Groom, Ben, in this Warwickshire wedding. As you can perhaps tell from the image, he got a little bit emotional during the vows and exchanging of rings.

Often, during the ceremony, I am in a privileged position, being in front of the couple whereas all their guests are behind. This gives me a unique perspective on events and it's my job to document them all

Finally, we have a Bridgnorth wedding in Hightown, at The Church of St Mary Magdalene.

With all the guests seated, Alice and her Dad were about to start their procession down the aisle. You can see her Dad, starting to proffer his arm for her to hold

I think it has similarities to the first image in this set in that there is such joy, albeit at a very different stage of the day.

When you set out to take candid, unposed shots that document a wedding day you never know exactly what you're going to get. But when you are able to capture moments like this it gives me a real sense of satisfaction

It's been wonderful to look back at these Instagram highlights and see which ones have resonated with other people.

If you are on Instagram then why not come and look at the most recent images and like your favourites. You might see them here next month!!
