The Dance - my favourite Wedding images

Before deciding to become a full-time wedding photographer I still tended to take my camera everywhere I went.

A few years ago my wife and I were invited to a friends wedding so of course my camera came too.

It was a wonderful wedding in a rural setting with an outdoor ceremony and the reception in a converted barn. There was a slighly vintage theme to the day and the barn was decked out with bunting and was wonderfully atmospheric. They had garden games during the drinks reception followed by duck herding....yes you did read that herding!!!

In the evening, as is common with most weddings, the Bride & Groom had their first dance. They had an amazing swing band band who played music with an infectious rhythm and filled the dance floor that evening.

I guess I've always had an eye for 'moments', those things that you can perhaps anticipate at a wedding but never guarantee, something that can pass in an instant, blink and it's gone.

The reason why I love this image so much is because I think it captures just such a moment. There seems a real tenderness to it and although the Bride and Groom aren't looking at each other you can tell there is a connection, both physical and emotional.

For me, an image like this is the epitome of what being in love looks like. It perhaps wouldn't win any points for technical merit but I don't think that's important. It's all about the moment that it captures and memory it evokes when you look at it.

Looking back I think capturing images like this gave me the confidence to become a wedding photographer and I hope to take many more like this in the years to come
